Natural Childbirth Education is taught as a weekend intensive and is appropriate for all couples wishing to learn more about having a natural, un-medicated birth in the hospital, birth center, or home environment. The weekend intensive class is 4 hours each day, and the cost is $175 per couple. Private instruction in your home is available and can be accommodated to meet your busy schedule. Childbirth Education "refresher courses" are 4-5 hours long total and are for couples who have already had childbirth education classes for a previous birth and would like a refresher course. Cost for the refresher course is $125. Outline of class is tailored to meet the environment you will be birthing in. The general topics covered are: THE STAGES OF LABOR; INCLUDING VARIOUS PHASES. PREPARING FOR YOUR BIRTH; EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY. HOW TO AVOID UNNECESSARY INTERVENTIONS AND HAVING A BIRTH PLAN. INFORMED CONSENT AND CLIENT'S RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. LABOR SUPPORT AND OPTIMAL POSITIONS FOR BIRTHING. THE ROLE OF A DOULA AND THE INFLUENCE OF OTHERS ON YOUR BIRTH. THE POSTPARTUM PERIOD AND PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION. HANDS-ON PRACTICE AND A BIRTH REHEARSAL. QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, AND CONCERNS.
