I offer free consultation to any woman interested in learning more about what having a birth doula can do to improve her birth outcome or what my specific service includes. I am ALACE trained and have a been a professional birth doula for a little over two years. I have also had Hypno-babies, hypno-doula training and can facilitate the use of hypnosis in birth. I am a student midwife (apprentice) and currently assist Donna Galati, CNM of Monarch Midwifery. I support and endorse the Midwifery Model of Care (TM) and woman-centered childbirth. The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. The Midwives Model of Care includes:
* Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle * Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support * Minimizing technological interventions * Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention I am CPR and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifed, and have attended over 40 births; some of which were out-of the country in Honduras as part of my Midwifery Apprenticeship and training. I also offer Monitrice Services as part of my Doula package which includes listening to fetal heart tones, doing cervical exams, and monitoring vitals during pregnancy and labor. I specialize in VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean) and believe that every woman deserves and is entitled to a trial of labor as well as extra support and current information about VBAC, HBAC (homebirth after cesarean), and C-section rates in local hospitals and birth centers so that clients have the opportunity to enjoy both safe and optimal birth experiences.
I am a member of the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN), Citizens for Midwifery (CfM), Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA), North Carolina Midwives Alliance (NCMA), and on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Friends of Midwives (NCFOM). I am currently studying/apprenticing as a Direct Entry Midwife (DEM) through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) Certification Process.
As your personal Doula and Monitrice I will serve your immediate needs as well as work to facilitate an empowering, sacred, and authentic birth process by offering informational, emotional, and physical support during pregnancy, labor and the immediate and critical postpartum period. I have breastfeeding knowledge and experience and will help you make an informed decision about the best way to nourish and nurture your baby, naturally. I have an extensive lending library of books, DVDs and CDs that can aid you in preparation for labor and birth. I highly recommend taking childbirth education classes, and personally offer Natural Childbirth Education and instruction as part of my doula service. I am committed to and passionate about helping women have empowering and optimal birth experiences.
